Short History 2


Richard Stallman's GNU project brought together and gave a name
to a movement that had existed in various vague forms for years.

As more and more open source projects got bigger and involved more developers, software project managers found they needed:
· A way to log the history of changes  
· A way to back changes out if they caused problems  
·A way to look at proposed changes before they were actually applied to the master version of a file.
